Daung: Rising Star of the Burmese Artist

Daung (Burmese: ဒေါင်း, "Peafow"), whose real name is Thuya Aung, Aung, 30 March 1990 was born and raised in Minhla, Bago Division, Myanmar. Burmese film and television actor and former footballer. He first gained widespread fame in Myanmar through his role in the 2019 film The Only Mom. Daung is known for his method acting performances, in contrast to the more typical melodramatic forms of acting popular in Burmese cinema.


Career

Daung made his acting debut in 2015 with a leading role in the film "The Second Heart," after being selected by Satori Creative Works, a film production company, from among nearly 500 amateur actors. He then garnered attention as the male lead in the film "Little Umbrella Story" alongside Paing Phyo Thu in 2017. The film achieved domestic success in Myanmar and helped elevate Daung's recognition in the industry.




In 2017, Daung gained increased attention and popularity for his role as Maung Maung Gyi in the television series "Bagan Myo Thu" alongside May Myint Mo and Htoo Aung. The series, which aired on MRTV-4 starting from November 28, 2018, became a massive commercial success, topping television ratings and becoming the most-watched Burmese television drama at the time.

In 2018, Daung took on his first leading role on the big screen in the horror-thriller film "The Only Mom," directed by Chatchai Katenut. The film, which also starred actress Wutt Hmone Shwe Yi and actor Nine Nine, premiered in Myanmar cinemas on February 8, 2019, and remained in theaters for a record-breaking seven weeks. It also received international recognition, screening in 13 other countries.




The same year, Daung portrayed the male lead in the film "Wind up Dancer," directed by Myo Myint Shwe and written by Nat Khat Ni. He also starred in the television series "Longing with Love" alongside Paing Phyo Thu and Angel Lamung, aired by Kamayut Media. Daung continued his success with the epic drama film "Legend of the Rain," directed by Win Lwin Htet, which premiered on July 11, 2019, and achieved immense popularity and critical acclaim.


Beyond his acting career, Daung became an ambassador for the Doh Gabar campaign in 2020, an environmental awareness campaign, alongside actresses Swe Zin Htaik and Aye Wutyi Thaung. Additionally, in 2022, he was cast in the Thai drama series "From Chao Phraya to Irrawaddy," directed by Chatchai Katenut and produced by Thai PBS.




The film "From Kyauk Phray to Irrawaddy," featuring Daung in a prominent role, received two prestigious accolades at the recent awards ceremony. The film was honored with the Best Film of the Year award, recognizing its outstanding contribution to the cinematic landscape. Additionally, the film's creative team was acknowledged with the Best Creative Award of the Year, celebrating their exceptional talent and innovative approach in bringing the story to life.
