Rashtra Kavach Om (2022): A Disappointing Action Film with Unrealistic Twists

Rashtra Kavach Om, previously titled Om: The Battle Within, is a Bollywood action film starring Aditya Roy Kapur in the lead role. Directed by Kapil Verma, the movie attempts to deliver a slick action experience but falls short due to convoluted plots, unrealistic twists, and a lack of substance. While Aditya Roy Kapur's physical transformation and action sequences show promise, the overall execution of Rashtra Kavach Om leaves much to be desired.

Synopsis

The story revolves around Om (Aditya Roy Kapur), a super commando on a mission to retrieve the Rashtra Kavach, a symbol of the nation's safety. However, after being shot, he loses his memory and finds himself in the care of Kavya Sharma (Sanjana Sanghi). As elite government officials Murthy (Prakash Raj) and Jai Rathod (Ashutosh Rana) work to get Om back into the mission, he discovers there is more at stake than just saving the nation. Along the way, he seeks to find his father, Dev Rathod (Jackie Shroff), and prove his innocence against accusations of being a traitor.

Rashtra Kavach Om - Review

Rashtra Kavach Om suffers from a disjointed and inconsistent storyline. The film introduces subplots that feel disconnected and irrelevant to the main plot, leaving the audience confused and disengaged. Some scenes border on absurdity, testing the audience's patience and credibility. Unrealistic elements, such as characters surviving fatal injuries or possessing superhuman abilities, undermine the film's attempt at creating a believable cinematic experience.

The dialogue in Rashtra Kavach Om often falls into clichéd and cringe-worthy territory. Lines like "Aapo kya chahiye, murda with memory, ya zinda with hope?" and "Rakht rahe ya na rahe, rashtra hamesha rahega" feel outdated and out of place in a modern action film. These dialogues lack depth and fail to elevate the storytelling or characters.

Aditya Roy Kapur's physical transformation and action sequences show potential for his future in the action genre. He handles the action scenes with proficiency, particularly those devoid of excessive special effects. However, beyond his physicality, the film fails to offer him substantial material to showcase his acting abilities. Sanjana Sanghi's character, Kavya Sharma, lacks depth and fails to leave a lasting impression.

Ashutosh Rana delivers a restrained performance, avoiding the trap of becoming overly dramatic. Prakash Raj, on the other hand, seems to be treading familiar ground with his portrayal, offering little freshness to his character. Prachee Shah Pandya as Om's mother has some decent moments but is limited by the screenplay.

The decision to change the film's title from Om: The Battle Within to Rashtra Kavach Om feels misleading. The movie does not effectively explore the themes of patriotism or showcase a battle within the characters. The change in title adds to the disappointment and confusion surrounding the film's overall direction.

Conclusion

Rashtra Kavach Om falls short of expectations as an action film, failing to deliver a coherent and engaging narrative. While Aditya Roy Kapur shows promise in the action genre, the film's convoluted plots, unreal twists, and lack of substance hinder its potential. The inclusion of clichéd dialogues and the misuse of patriotism as a trope further contribute to the film's underwhelming experience. Unless you are a die-hard Aditya Roy Kapur fan, Rashtra Kavach Om is a movie that can be skipped in favor of more compelling action offerings.
